The Branch

“The Branch” is one of Sergei Dovlatov’s final works, written in exile. The novel chronicles the life of a Russian émigré working at the New York branch of an emigrant newspaper. With his characteristic humor and irony, the author describes the daily life of the Russian diaspora in America, the challenges of adaptation, and nostalgia for the homeland. The book is also known under the subtitle “Notes of the Future.”
