Crime and Punishment

Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky’s novel, written in 1866, is one of the most significant works of world literature. At the center of the plot is the story of former student Rodion Raskolnikov, who decides to murder an old pawnbroker to test his theory dividing humanity into the “ordinary” and those who “have the right.” After committing the crime, the protagonist endures profound moral torment, leading him to the realization of his guilt and to spiritual rebirth.
