Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow

The famous eighteenth-century work by Aleksandr Nikolayevich Radishchev is a literary account of a journey between the two capitals of the Russian Empire. The book offers a sharp critique of serfdom and social injustice in Russia at the time. For publishing this work, the author was arrested and exiled to Siberia by order of Catherine II, who called Radishchev “a rebel worse than Pugachev.”
