The White Guard

“The White Guard” is the first novel by Mikhail Bulgakov, written in the early 1920s, chronicling the fate of the Russian intelligentsia during the Russian Civil War. The novel is set in Kyiv during the winter of 1918–1919, amidst shifting regimes and historical upheaval. Through the story of the Turbin family, the author portrays the tragedy of the White movement and the collapse of the old world.
